It isn't as though you let yourself rest this much anyway. I wanted to avoid disturbing you. [That and he wanted to get to the kitchen before Waver did, knowing they'd have a similar idea.]
It's breakfast, of course. [Well timed as seeing that groggy blinking Diarmuid had just set coffee out. If not for how endeared he was by it the smile on his face would have a much more teasing nature having made it to cook first.]
[Waver mumbled something indistinct, wordlessly between embarrassment and annoyance he'd been outmaneuvered. Turning slightly red, he rubbed the back of his neck and pushed a loose braid back over his shoulder.]
M...merry Christmas. Thanks, but of course you realize this means I'm making dinner later.
Ha, very well. I'll concede that much to you, at least.
[Diarmuid got the early morning lead under his belt. Infuriatingly, Diarmuid was still smiling about it as he moved by Waver to put both arms around his waist.]
It is still early, but I have more than this to give you as the morning goes. [Did he mean Christmas presents or did he mean the sweet kiss on the cheek that he brought Waver in close to give? The answer is yes.]
It is. [Playing the game a bit while moving a hand up to affectionately run his fingertips through that braid.
He wouldn't distract the man for too long with that though. Tempted as Diarmuid was to say Waver didn't need to do anything, well, 'tis the season.]
I look forward to exchanging gifts with one another, then. [He has been for a bit but if nothing else he was highly resistant to temptation. The breakfast might have been planned quite far in advance.]
Of course, you'll find that as always I spared no effort! Even what was new to me I would see made as close to the quality you deserve as I could reach.
[AKA, follow recipes to a T and not deviate. Indeed, he briefly strolled the kitchen to bring out what wasn't already set which at the point he was at was essentially just the rest of the coffee.
Heartier staple foods, your breads, meat, eggs or anything that could be feasibly gathered from animals were his clear expertise as shown by the fact those looked more effortlessly prepared. Which wasn't to say his tries at making some pancakes weren't awful, they were just a little misshapen. He came very close to going from scratch if not for the wonder of quick mixes. The portions were quite big, a testament to said effort.
Really the center piece of roses helped to put romance in the air even though it was inconceivable for Diarmuid to have gotten them so fresh on Christmas Day.]
You are so ridiculous. [Said with nothing but genuine fondness as he sat down, and it took about a minute and half a slice of toast before something actually occurred to him.]
Wait...where did you get flowers? Everywhere's sure to be closed today.
["The worst", "ridiculous", not the first time he's heard these and it won't be the last. Should he cool it some? Maybe. Will he? He might think about it if Waver actually meant it.]
Yes, that. It really is the strangest thing. [A pause as he considered what else came from the weird Goodwill.] Ah, well perhaps not too strange. Ever since late last month, I've been able to conjure flowers such as this. I am only able to make so many at one time, but they're always healthy as though being picked from a carefully cultivated garden suited just for them.
[Demonstrating as much, he held a hand up and from it did a white rose bud from it. The stem was short, not quite reaching thorns yet.
And what else would he do with it besides hold it out for Waver to take.]
That actually made Diarmuid pause for a moment, absolutely caught off guard. But given the hearty laugh he let out after recovering from just how smooth that was, he couldn't have been happier to be swept in such a way. Even he's blushing at that one.]
Haha! So they are... [He'll you have this one, Waver.] Well played.
[The sly smile broke into a bright grin at the sound of Diarmuid laughing, Waver joining with a small one of his own. Wow, that was actually comically lame now that he played it back in his head.]
Good to know I can manage to surprise you now and then.
[Most of what came out of Diarmuid's mouth was comically lame, did Waver really think that was a factor at all? Especially when it succeeded? Heavens above, whatever shall Diarmuid do faced with such a challenge?]
I clearly mustn't let my guard down lest I be the one swept off my feet this time.
[Dangerous as a kitten with a chip on its shoulder.]
The Knights of Fianna take on all challenges. Their finest will the last one to stand down, if he does at all. [The way every word out of Diarmuid's mouth even in the midst of banter carried an air of earnesty.]
I'll only ever seek to raise the standard so high that it meets the stars.
[Nothing will stop him from chasing that shining, guiding light. And nothing has ever stopped him from putting his entire heart and soul into every action, even the simplest ones as finding gifts.]
[That's a little strange, being worried about a gift. Diarmuid would appreciate anything given by Waver, but he nonetheless nodded.]
Alright, if you insist. Give me just a moment. [He stepped away to the other room for them to sit, then brought a few boxes, none of which were very large to set before Waver. On top of them was a card perhaps meant to be read first.
If he was nervous it didn't show, more like he was eager.]
These are for you. Begin with whichever one you would like.

Oh-
[Surprise faded into a gentle and sincere smile, Waver reaching back to take the flower with a delicate touch.]
That's...pretty impressive.

An earnest and sweet smile is reflected back at him with a lightness in his tone as he spoke.]
It is, given that flowers that thrive in the winter months are harder to come by. [His hand lingered over Waver's as he handed the flower off.]
Though beauty can still certainly be found with or without them being a common sight in the cold and snow. [We are no longer talking about flowers.]
no subject
It's true, one can certainly find it in the most unexpected places. Or perhaps even very close at hand.

[Said brushing loose strands of hair behind to secure the flower better, tracing his fingers along Waver's cheek as he pulled back.
Multitasking. Flirting while having breakfast as one does on a Christmas morning.]

So, do you want to keep each other in suspense much longer?

[And Diarmuid was blessed to be its sole recipient.]
The time is right, I believe. Shall we? [There was more than one thing to get through after all. On both their parts.]
