Also plants are only my area of expertise where they can be used in alchemy. Medicinal shit and things like that.

im sure spikey would say something about proverbial deserts or emotional deserts but the actual desert sucks the worst. if the heat doesn't get you the lack of resources will, and thats if you don't factor in some idiot hitting you with a truck despite it being a desert and you being the only other thing out there.
